Yes, definitely. I started out my teaching career in Taiwan several years ago, and I just knew a few words in Chinese. I have known many other teachers in Asia who do fine without learning the language. If you are interested in teaching English in Asia, take a look at the information on the websites below:

Basically, Yes.

A key challenge is communication with your host country/school wherein you are at the mercy of their “translations” which may actually be “interpretations” of what they tell you others are saying or what they tell others you said.

For the students, it is better that you don’t speak their language as a forcing function to get them to use Engish.

For many places having a BA in any major is OK so long as you can pass yourself off as a native speaker.

Key things to think about: round trip airfare, lodging, food, transportation in country. Then there’s teaching load, books/materials. Some places reimburse you for the airfare AFTER you complete on contract cycle ..about 1 year)

Going with Organizations/Companies: be careful. depending o how much you know about the firm…you may be caught in an overt or covert missionary operation. That’s up to you.

Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Most agencies that arrange for you to teach English in Asian countries specify that you don’t need to speak the language.
