Your question does not say what you want to use the language for. If it is simply an elective and you must choose one that is different than if you want to use it in daily life or would like to utilize it in a career. This makes me need to give you a play by play. LOL A. Unique and useful for a translation career but you might soon forget it since it you would not have many people to converse with in Russian in your daily life unless it was career oriented. B. Portuguese is a very difficult language to learn. I also do not see how useful it would be except in Brazil or Portugal. C. Italian is useful in daily life as there are many immigrants that still speak Italian in many countries D. French is romantic and useful in many countries E. Arabic could be useful only for work as a translator and again would be easily forgotten since it would not be used much except in a career. F. I personally don’t find German to be a very pretty language and cannot see how it would be very useful.

Personally I really don’t like German. I am Italian and I would suggest that you study Italian.:) Even ’cause is far easier than German. But neither of them is all that important. I mean they are not spoken in many countries. Then I suggest that you study Spanish (if you want to study an European language)…Or French. I don’t speak French but I love it…When I hear it!! And French, Spanish and Italian are not the same!! Yeah, they are similar. But if you learn Italian then you won’t speak either Spanish or French. Anyway, it’s gonna be easier to learn them.

You asked for the most practical language. I would say German. Most of the jobs offers I see in Europe require you to be able to speak German rather than Italian.

Depends on what type of work you plan on doing. I’ve studied French, I am fluent in Spanish and English and I’ve also studied Italian. It’s all come in handy!
I tried German but I just couldn’t do it. I didn’t find the language attractive. Just my opinion…

hmmmm…maybe German. I think America does more business with people from Germany. I want to learn Arabic, Japanese, and Spanish. I’m going to live and work in Dubai and study Arabic and see where things go from there.

Chinese, that is what we all need to learn, they are going to be more powerful than the U.S. soon and we are going to need translators to do business. But if you learn italian it would be easier to learn French or Spanish later because all 3 are similar.

It depends where you live. If you are here in the states I would suggest spanish. And if you are in Europe german or french.

If you learn Italian then if you ever needed to learn Spanish, Portuguese, or french they are all not that different from each other. So learning the other languages would not be too hard.
