I’ve done a bit of research on british universities, because I plan to spend a year studying abroad.

I looked into Exeter, which is a beautiful & wonderful school. I also seriously considered Kingston university right outstide London. Definintely check that one out, it’s an amazing school at an amazing location with a phenominal campus! I fell in love with it immediately!

I’ve also done a little research on Sheffield University, which I found to be great for certain majors, but not as strong for other majors. Give it a look & see if they are a strong program for your area of interest, but if not,

I’d consider a different location. However, Sheffield is an incredibly affordable place to live, so you wouldn’t go bankrupt just by studying there.

Best wishes, hope I could help ya out!

You should check out the British Council, they promote UK universities internationally, so they will have information on every university, links, and they can answer questions as well.

If you are going as a study abroad student, here are some things to consider before picking a school.

1. Does your university already have arrangements with UK universities? If so, your options are most likely already limited to a few schools.

2. Are you enrolled in an intensive course where all of your classes go towards your major? If so, you will have to pick a UK university where your major is strong. If not, you could go to almost any UK university and take classes towards your humanities credits.

3. Cost. If your university has arrangements with any UK universities, you would most likely only have to pay the same tuition you normally pay (plus travel etc.) and your financial aid would still work. But if your university does not have arrangements with a UK university, pick a smaller, less known UK university as they will likely charge international students less than a larger well known (popular among international students) university. You also have to keep cost of living in mind. The UK is ridiculously expensive! But it is cheaper to live in some areas as compared to others. You can also apply for scholarships, like the Rotary Ambassadorial scholarship which would help.

4. Timing. Does your school run a strict semester system? Some UK uni’s run terms, and there are generally more of them in an academic year.

If none of this is a concern, pick by location! London (including Cambridge/Oxford) and the surrounding areas are great, but expensive, and you will be surrounded by alot of international students and tourists rather than submerged into UK life. Bristol is a really great uni and a fun area. York is a nice area too, right between London and Edinburgh, but the tourists can get annoying. Scotland is beautiful, people are really nice, and it is cheaper, but prepare for the cold! Leesd has really come into it’s own the last few years, both uni and city. I am torn about Manchester just because it feels so industrial. Personally, I would stay away from Sheffield, Liverpool, Leicester, and prolly Exeter.
