drshorty is not entirely correct, you will find that the majority of American universities require international students to take the SAT I or the ACT and for competitive institutions students may also be required to take the SAT II: Subject Tests.

You should however check with the university which you are applying to for their requirements.

The SAT I is a standardized test for college admissions in the United States. The SAT is supposed to measure critical thinking skills that are needed for academic success in university. It is claimed that the SAT assesses how well the test takers analyze and solve problems, skills they learned in school that they will need in college.

The test itself consists of three sections:

Math – Emphasis on number and operations; algebra and functions; geometry; statistics, probability, and data analysis.

Critical Reading: Emphasis on critical reading, reading comprehension, sentence completions, and paragraph-length critical reading.

Writing – Self explanatory.

The SAT’s are administered by The College Board and for more information about study guides, how to register and pay for your test and also find your closest testing center you should visit their website which I have provided for you below.

I’m guessing that you are an international student who is interested in studying at an American university; is that right? In this case, it is unlikely that you will need to take the SAT exam. check the part of the university’s website that talks about “International Admissions”; that should help you.
