In-state and out-state fees?

What is the difference in IN-STATE FEES and OUT-STATE FEES??

I am really confused, please help!

You will pay out-of-state fees.

Public colleges and universities have different fee schedules because they are at least partially funded by tax dollars. So, the people who live in the state that pay those taxes pay a lower tuition costs than those who don’t live in that state.

So, for example, if you live in Kansas, you pay “in-state” fees to go to a public Kansas university because your (and your parents) tax dollars go to the universities. If you live in another state (or country) you pay out-of-state fees because you have not paid to support the universities.
