People to People Student Ambassador Programs?

I have been invited to go there to visit Australia and New Zealand. It says that I will be earning high school and university credit, however next year, I will only be in the eigth grade.

Is this program legit? How much money would it cost? I plan to attend the meeting, but even though money is not so much of a concern, is it worth it? Hwo do they treat you? Person experiences are valued.

I got the same letter (I am in high school however). I’ve read a bit about it on the internet, and first off, I should tell you that you being selected has abosolutely NOTHING to do with merit. For instance, there was a case in Iowa a year or two ago where a woman received a letter saying her son had been nominated by a teacher or previous participant for the program. Said child had died in 1993 as an infant.

I’ve also read that they don’t treat you particularly well, and aren’t all that concerned with student welfare. It’s more of a vacation than an acedemic trip.

The Australia-New Zealand one costs about $6000.

It’s amazing how many people are “selected” for this “honor”!

While it’s not QUITE a scam, it’s just a glorified vacation and a damned expensive one at that.

If you really want an international experience that is worth something, save your money and take an exchange year when you are a junior in high school. THAT is what colleges and universities really want to see. You will experience true language and cultural immersion and reap benefits for the rest of your life.

The program is legit. It costs around $5,500. It is really worth it. Sometimes we were skeptic as to why the leaders would get better food than us, etc. but we usually forgot about it a few minutes later. we were treated well. since you are a 8th grader you will only earn high school credit. Its worth the $. We got to play soccer w/ a group of french kids and stay at a german home for a few days. we even went to school in munich. Everyone came back saying “Best summer ever” “Best trip ever” “I cant wait until i get to sign up for next year”.
