This depends on whether you want to go as a high school or college student.

If high school, a list of programs that are certified to operate in the US is located at www.csiet.org. You can also ask your high school counselor for programs that operate in your area and that he/she recommends.

If you are a college student, check with your adviser. Most colleges have at least one “partner” university for exchanges.

As far as places to go … that depends upon your goal. However, bear in mind that one of the chief benefits of an exchange year is language immersion. So, if you are a native English speaker, you should pick someplace with a different language.

First, make sure you check your school. I found my study abroad programs by playing around on my school’s website!

Second, I don’t know your financial situation, but if your family has money you can go on other trips. Try this website: www.bunac.org/usa

Ok so if you go out of the country and you want to take a crazy cool tour, try Contiki. Look it up. My friend went and she had so much fun!!! I saw the pictures- it had to be fun. They have them where you can go through a few neighboring countries. And it cost like 2000. and that’s not bad for a 20 day tour.

Good luck!

Your college probably has programs in place in some countries, and has “deals” with other colleges allowing its students to use their programs and vice versa.

So start with your student advisor to learn what your options might be. In general, you don’t get to pick a cool place to go, then try to apply your field of study to that place. Instead, you figure out what aspect of what you’re studying could be supplemented by moving your study to which place.

Someone studying German has an easy semester-abroad decision. Art History, also pretty easy, with more options. If you’re studying Physics, Communications, or English Lit, you’re going to need to have a solid reason for studying elsewhere for it to be worth the extra expense.
