How difficult would it be for an American to get into a Canadian University.?

I have good grades (As and Bs). I really want to study in a different country, but I don’t want to be too far from home either. How difficult is the process including applying, getting a visa etc…?

It’s fairly easy. The average University is slightly less harder to get into than an Ivy League institution though, the average acceptance rate is about 20%. They are more tightly regulated by the government than US institutions so the quality of education is fairly high.

If you really want to experience studying in a foreign country, Canada is not the place to do it. The only noticeable difference I found (I did my M.A. in Canada) was that there was french on all the food labels. Aside from that, I never knew I left Missouri. They have American magazines, American food, American TV, etc The population is predomininatly white with a minority of blacks and orientals. They speak English (so they misspell a few words like coloUr, honoUr, neighboUr, etc).

Nice place, but you won’t feel like you’ve left home.

You can apply to a Canadian university with no trouble. As long as you are willing to pay the full price with no Canadian financial you can go there. As for opening up a bakery, most Canadians get there baked goods at a place they call a “Supermarket”. Individual bakeries do not do that well unless they can find a place in a newly gentrified area. In the already high income areas, there are more than enough bakeries anyway. Really, that is a field where Canadians already have an ample supply. Now if you were to become a Petroleum Engineer, you would have a sure shot at a great career. As for Canadian culture, look at Seattle and LA. 20% of the people in Hollywood are Canadian and 20% of all the news broadcasters in the USA are Canadian. The culture os Seattle and Canada are essentially the same.

M D’s answer is fair enough even if it might make more nationalistic Canadians cringe. For the whole 9 yards go to www.aucc.ca the best portal for all things relating to the Canadian univesity system.

Good luck.
