Want to transfer/ visit foreign country?

I want to be able to do some sort of transfer program to another country. I’m currently 17 (but will probably be leaving when I’m 18) and I’m not currently in high school (dropped out 2nd semester of Junior year) but I’m planning on starting college soon. Is there a program that I can use to go to another country (anywhere from a month to a year) for either academic or non-academic purposes? I looked at AFS but they don’t have anything for ppl over 18 looking to go to Germany, which I’m really interested in. So anyways, if you know any kinda of exchange program please let me know. Thanks.

First off, congratulations on completing your high school education.

I’ve worked on interview committees for study abroad candidates. I can tell you that organizations such as AFS have high standards for their applicants, and a high school dropout would not meet their standards. These organizations pride themselves on sending ‘ambassadors’ abroad, to represent their organization, etc. I’m not trying to put you down, but they just wouldn’t choose you as an ideal candidate.

If you want to spend some time in Germany, I’d suggest taking a class at a Goethe Institut there. www.goethe.de

Another option (an additional option?!) would be to start taking German as a college freshman, and spend your junior year in a program at a German university.

Viel Glueck!
