Has anyone studied abroad with AFS? How about YFU or ASSE?

I’m heading to Europe for my Junior year in high school and I’m trying to get ANY info I can. What was your experience like? How would your rate the program you traveled with on a scale of 1 to 10?

Brad had some great advice. AFS is a nice program. YFU isn’t bad either, depending upon where in the country you live. A program is ONLY as good as it’s local people and right now, the midwest isn’t great for YFU. However, your best bet is to contact your school counselor and ask for his/her recommendation. That will put you in contact with people who have worked with your school in the past. In addition, check out the Aspect Foundation, Rotary and 4-H.

For some general advice on being an exchange student, check out http://www.exchangestudentworld.com/

That is a site written BY current and former students and has a wealth of experience!

Good luck and have fun!

I did AFS a few years ago. Easily 10 out of 10. life changing experience. Be prepared for ups and downs though. Being stuck in a strange country when you can’t communicate with anyone can be a bit of a downer at first. But its worth it for the experience.

Don’t freak out too much about the language issue. Try and get some basics down before you go and once your there you’ll pick it up so quickly. Get involved in everything possible (sports activities etc).

You’ll have a blast

it particularly is confusing to grant a common reaction, as each and each software has advantages and drawbacks. in case you’re at the instant a school pupil, pass on your college’s learn in another country place of work and communicate with an adviser to work out which software is a sturdy in positive condition for you and your academic goals.
