get the x or y on the top then substitute on the bottom equation [lets do x] : 5x = -4y + 2 (moved the 4y)

(5x)/5 = (-4y+2)/5 (divide 5 to get x alone)

x = (-4y+2)/5 theres ur x now substitute on the bottom

-5[(-4y+2)/5] – 2y = 4 Solve then you get your y

*He said substitution not elimination

Do elimination. Add the two together to get x or y by itself.

5x+4y=2

-5x-2y=4

2y=6

y=3

Then, plug y back into one of the original equations

5x+12=2

5x=-10

x=-2

The final answers are x=-2 y=3
