October and November would be best. This way, colleges you want to apply to will receive your scores on time. You can take the December one if you do not need the scores right away. Most colleges will tell you on their website when they need the score report by. Some will even tell you which SAT to take so that they can receive the scores.

Another option is the ACT. Most people do better on this test. Personally, my equivalency grade was only one range higher than my SAT grade, but it was still better. Since this is only offered four times a year in most areas (October, December, April, June, September in limited states, and February in all but NY), you would have to take the test in October.

I understand that you would want to take the test again to get a better grade, but I warn you: these tests are reliable. Most people do not do much better by taking the test a third time. A second time, yes, they may do better. But a third, not so much. I would recommend studying a lot. Expand your vocabulary and practice your math skills. Know proper grammer. Get the SAT question of the day sent to your email. Take a prep course or use a review book. Princeton review really helped me on my Subject Tests.

Good luck!

I would choose October or early November. Any later and you will be preoccupied with holiday times and will be less likely to want to study. If you have the option to take the ACT over the SAT, do the ACT! I did terrible on the SAT twice, but got the equivalent of like a 1400 when I took the ACT. The ACT covers a more broad spectrum of topics which helps out your score.

Good luck!

If you are doing early decision, yur best bet would be to study for the tests over the summer and take them in October. If you are applying early action or early decision, you’ll need to have all your testing completed by the November test date. So then you’ll obnly have two chances. But you might take them again in December if you aren’t applying anywhere early.

If you’re a rising senior, you want to take the test as early as possible, especially if you’re applying anywhere on early decision/action. Regular decision applications usually aren’t due until January, but you want as much time as you can get, especially if a retest will be necessary.

as early as possible, that way you can

a) get it over with

b) have time to retake it if you want…

and if you’re that displeased with your scores… try taking the ACT’s and see if you do better.
