When and where can you take the S.A.T. if you are in 8th grade?

I heard you can take it early so I wanted to try it and see how I score.

Yes, you can take it early. I took it in 7th grade and 8th grade myself. I commend you for getting a head start. I would recommend not just “trying” it; try to actually do well and prepare for it because once you hit high school, you might not have as much time on your hands to study for it.

You can register online at http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/reg.html after creating an online account. You do need to be at least thirteen to do so. You will be able to select a date (the earliest is October). The test will be administered on a Saturday morning at 8:00 at a nearby testing site, which will most likely be something like a local high school. You might take it along with high schoolers, but when I took it in middle school, everyone in my testing room was also a middle schooler.

I would recommend buying an SAT study guide that offers free online practice tests.

It’s cheaper, it’s the same test you’ll see, and you’ll have the book to help you practice.

Sure you can take the test through the website, and to be honest, your school’s office should have to capability to arrange it for you. It was mandatory at my school that we all took the PSAT in 7th and 8th.

I would really advise you to use the practice tests first, put yourself in a low stimulation area with a timer or have your parents time you, and get used to taking the test for the time span and the feel of it. If you throw yourself into the classroom situation now, with the hardcore “If I don’t do this right my life is ruined crowd” it may cause more anxiety or cause you to second guess yourself when it happens for real.

Get a practice book, for $30 or so, you get 4 full length tests with some of them!

Good luck hon!

Talk to your Guidance Counselor. They do usually try to discourage it because it’s not necessary. However, if you are a gifted or talented student, there is a special program for pre-high school kids.

The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth offers special programs and classes around the country based on how young achievers score on the SAT. I put the link below.

You can take the SAT anywhere it is offered at ANY age. You must go to www.collegeboard.com and register for a test. they will tell you where it is available (usually local high schools).

Tip: popular test sites fill up early so register early.

The test is offered once a month on a saturday morning (and sunday with proof of religious commitments).

Anyone can sign up for the SAT at any age or grade. Go to the collegeboard.com website and sign up. They will have a list of test dates and locations. Since you aren’t old enough to have a driver’s license, you will have to look at their rules on alternate forms of identification and make sure you have what they need when you go. You can also download a practice test from that site.

I wouldn’t suggest taking them early. But you should be able to sign up at any location, just like anybody else. I don’t know if there will be age restrictions for online registration (but you can still do it by mail if that’s the case).

We took the PSAT in the 8th grade. It was at a high school. Just ask your counselor when school starts. Insist that you take it because some counselors will say no.

if u wanna take it early just to see how you do. i recommend doing that your sophmore year in high school. since ur not even in high school yet. i dont recommend buying course books and trying to study for it just yet. you still got plenty of time. when u enter high school. focus on your course work first. you will find that paying attention and doing well in your classes is a great way to also prepare for the SAT. during sophmore year. sign up for the SAT. just take it, dont bother studying much for it. see how you do. see what areas you excelled in and what areas you need to improve. this way. between then and when you need to take it for real junior year. you will know what you need to study and what areas you need to work on.
