What is the purpose of AP classes/exams?

I’m only a freshman but I’m confused – does taking AP courses in high school mean that you don’t have to take that class in college? and other details about the concept that is AP would be much appreciated.

AP means Advanced Placement which means you have the brains for it…. AP classes are subjects that you will come across with in College. Taking it during High School does not mean you don’t have to take it anymore in College. AP classes help you get through College…

AP means advanced placement. The classes are harder than honors or regular classes and are considered college preparation/college level classes.

Just because you take the AP classes in high school does NOT automatically mean that you will not have to take them in college!

If you score high enough on the AP exam (usually a 3 or above) the colleges give you credit. If you don’t score high enough, none of the colleges will know–you only report the exams you did well in.

Also, when applying to college, admissions people like to see AP courses, even if you don’t take the exam or don’t get a high enough score on the exam.
