there’s the Academic IELTS and the General.

the band score is out of 9

If you’re not a native speaker of English you’re required to sit for the General if u want to travel or migrate to an English speaking country like Canada, Australia, England or USA. they usually require a band score of 5 or 5.5

you may need to sit for the Academic IELTS if you’re applying for any college in which courses are taught in English. they usually require you to score about 6.5

the exam tests the 4 skills; Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
