What are the best ways to get ready for SAT subject Math II?

I’m planning to take Math II and Chemistry for SAT Subject Tests.

I’m taking AP Chem so I hope I will do well in Chemistry.

But for the Math II, I don’t know what class I’m supposed to take already to be ready for it.

I’m gonna take Pre Cal, will that help in the test or do I need to go back and review Algebra 2/Trig completely?

Precalculus will definitely help. You’re also going to have to go back and review your algebra and trig stuff, but because precalculus is pretty much just algebra and trig all over again, it’s all pretty much the same thing.

You sound like me my sophomore year of high school. I took AP Chemistry and Precalculus that year, and I took the Math 2 and Chemistry SAT tests. I got 800’s on both, so that preparation was perfectly adequate. It’s unlikely, though, that your courses at school will directly align with what you need to know for the Math 2 test, so I would recommend getting a test prep book to fill in any gaps and to review. The Princeton Review one is the one I used (and it obviously worked out for me). I went to my public library and checked out an edition that was almost 10 years out of date, but they’ve never significantly changed that test. That way, I didn’t have to pay a dime for it. www.sparknotes.com might also be worth a shot, but I didn’t use it back then.

Actually, you can afford to miss about 5 questions on both of these tests and still have an 800.

For Math 2–just buy a review book. The Princeton Review SAT Subject Test book for Math 1 and 2 is a very good book (just don’t get discouraged if you score low on the PR sample tests, as they are harder than the real thing; I scored about 80 points higher on Math 1 than the PR sample tests predicted I would score). You’ll learn everything there that you need to know in that book. I used it to prepare for Math 1 and would have used it for Math 2 instead (but I ran out of time to do the extra studying).

For Math 2, Pre-calc is the last class you need. So it will help you to learn all that stuff. But remember, the Math 2 tests everything from Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2/Trig, and Pre-calc (well, not all topics, but you know what I mean).

You should probably take Math 2 in June, and Chemistry at the same time, if you will have all the AP material in your head.

Bring a TI-89! =P

Can’t use calculators on the chem exams, but they work miracles for the sat2s and aps for math.

classes, usually a pre-calc will be enough to ace the math2c as long as you know what your doing, i took it while taking precalc and was more than comfortable.

ps. beware of chemistry though, i took both ap chem and sat2 chem the same month (ap ended up being 2 days before the sat2) and ap allows much more room for curve, but sat2, while may be easier, even a few wrong and it reflects on your score. So be careful to answer each question thoroughly when taking that sat2, because while 20 wrong is still a 5 on the ap, 5 wrong becomes a haunting 780 on the sat2

If you haven’t burned/shredded/recycled your Algebra II notes, keep them, and skim over them, redoing the examples. Analytic geometry and trig are definitely on Math II.

Math II is a collection of the “easy” questions that you’d see on your classroom tests, so be familiar with everything but don’t worry about the trick/”thinker” questions that you have in class.

PreCalc is a loosely defined class–it’s good if it covers probability. You should also know a little about set theory, statistics, and ..matrices. There was a matrices question (out of nowhere!) in the Math II that I took.

Go to a local bookstore and buy a SAT review book. The ones buy Princeton Review are good.
