What are some good strategies for writing the SAT essay? Please HELP!?
I got a 6 (out of 12) on my essay last time because I freaked out and changed my opinion on the topic halfway through the time period and erased everything I had and started over. I just don’t know how to write a good essay with only 20 minutes. I am used to writing a 5 paragraph essay format, but 20 minutes doesn’t allow me to do that. HELP!! I am desperate to make a 10 so I can get into a good college!

I take a SAT writing class and my teacher told our class not to write 5 paragraph essays for the SAT Essay section. What the people want are four paragraph essays. Intro, two examples, and then a closing. 5 Paragraphs will not let you finish in time. If you want a ten, you need to have decent amount of vocabulary and structure. Also, neatness and grammar counts. As for the examples, they must be from literatures or historical figures or events. DO NOT USE 1st person narratives. Think of the people reading your essays… They really do not care about your personal life because they will think it is BS. Writing about a personal life can be sad, but they will just not care at all and will give you a 5. Good books that deal with MANY MANY examples that can counter the SAT question are The Great Gatsby, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and Jane Eyre. The reason why your teacher forces you to read these books in school is because he or she wants you to use them for future essays.
Use your time wisely don’t waste anytime. The first 3-5 minutes, you brainstorm and think of the two examples. Or, you can do this while writing your introduction.

I got an 11 on the writing section on my first try and going into it i just made sure that i had a really good understanding of the books i read in my english and theology classes(i had c’s in both, so im not a nerd who prepares like crazy for this) and i had just had exams for school so the ideas were fresh in my head. I was able to analyze the books in range of things such as the fall of the human condition or growth of society in a child’s eye. So when my essay came up, i thought about where i wanted to go with for about a minute and stuck with the same i dea the whole way while applying my thought to the books i had studied during the year. I think u just need to be consistent and make sure that everything you write is relevant to the same point in the end.

You should really just calm down first because being rushed and confused doesn’t make the paper any better. Using great vocabulary and making the flow of your sentences better is a great tool to making that 10. Whatever your topic is, you should focus more on your opinion; because this is for YOU (the people wanna know YOU.) You should also give accurate information and it would help if you gave an extra snippet of information to go an extra mile.

the applicable examples IMO is historic examples. (vietnam conflict/wwII/American revolution/commercial revolution/and so on) yet what you prefer to do is %. some thing your conscious of. Classics(1984, courageous new worldwide, Animal Farm, great Gatsby and so on) is additionally used as examples. What you prefer to do is discover your edge of the argument (sat questions are oftentimes desire you to %. a element and let us know why its suitable) discover the deeper meaning of the question. forget the top, its the least important(yet nonetheless holds factors) concentration on your physique paragraphs. First hand adventure could be used yet you actual could understand what your asserting if u prefer to reference your self. (no longer as useful as classic novels or historic activities)
