SAT Junior, what should I know?

Alright, this year I am going to take the SAT’s in Texas. For those of your who don’t know what it is, the SAT is a test that’s held in Texas. It’s a big test that usually either makes or brakes your high school career. Now, I’ve only got about half a year to study for this test and I really want to do as well as I can on it.

I’ve already gone to their website, and I am looking into buying the software, but the only problem is that it is around 60$, and I don’t have that kind of money. So, I went and I looked into buying the study guide, and that is also somewhat expensive.

I’m thinking of going and sitting myself at Barnes and Noble for a day, and just studying there since I am cheap like that. And of course, there is always the internet as another free study guide.

Can anyone out there that has taken the SATs give me some tips and some sites or something where I can get a head start on it? Please and thanks! 🙂

i would definately not lower your course load. colleges like to see that you can excell in the classroom and on the tests without giving urself a break.

im a senior and i did fairly well on the SATs and the ACTs. i did get a tutor for the SAT but not w/ the ACT. here’s whjat i did; buy a book with a bunch of practice tests in it. every saturday morning take a test – early in the morning because you will have to do that for the real thing too. take at least 4 and study alot of vocab. read all the tips they give u in the book – there are always shortcuts to figuring out hte questions. i did this and i got a 1980/1320 on SATs and a 29 on ACTs.

good luck and remember u can always retake them. they will not make or break ur high school record esp. if u have a good gpa. the 2 sorta balance eachother out. good luck!

Umm, fyi, the SAT is not given only in Texas, it’s a nationwide deal. The TAKS on the other hand, that’s Texas. Presumably you went to www.collegeboard.com since you said you went to their website, but if not, that’s where you should go. They have these SAT question of the day things that they e-mail to you every day, that’s a good way to practice. You can check out some SAT study guides from the library too if you don’t want to buy them. Basically the SAT tests your logic and reasoning skills, so there’s only so much studying you can do. Try to expand your vocabulary by reading or studying words in the guides. It helps to know what different parts of words mean (e.g. post means after, mal means bad) so you can puzzle out big words if necessary. You should take practice tests so you get used to how fast you need to work to do well, and get an idea of what the questions will be like. Good luck, and make sure you sign up for your test on time!

I agree. Just about everything costs WAY TOO MUCH!

Try going to your local library for SAT prep books (Princeton Review, Collegeboard,…). If your library (for some weird reason) does not have any, try an interlibrary loan. If all else fails, go to amazon.com

…and you probably don’t need to lower your course load to study for the SAT. If you think you’re going to have trouble anyway (ignoring the SAT), you may want to, but I doubt it’s necessary.

Collegeboard.com can send you questions in your e-mail daily, and you can even take free practice tests on their website. Also see if your counselor or any teachers in the buildings have some SAT practice books you can borrow
