Pre-Algebra Homework Question!?
If 1 more than 5 times a number is 26, what is the number?
A.-27/5
B.-5
C.5
D.27/5
Favorite Answer
With algebra, you make x the unknown.
Thus, 1 + 5x = 26.
Subtracting 1 from both sides,
5x = 25
x = 5.
A prealgebraic way to solve the problem is to plug in each number.
If this or another answer here proves helpful in your research, you can encourage good answers by choosing one answer as the “best answer.”

so what you need to do is turn it into an equation and solve for the number
subtract 1 from both sides and then divide by 5
“more than” = add
“times” = multiply
“a number” = variable (it can be any letter you want it to be)
“is” = equals
Subtract the one on both(what you do to one side you have to do to the other) sides so that the variable is left alone. Then divide by five so that “x” is by itself. Make sure you divide by five on the other side of the equal sign too.
Hope this helps π
5 x 5 = 25, and that 25 + 1 = 26
look at it like this: 5x + 1 = 26 (x being the answer you want to find out)
5x= -1 + 26
5x = 25
x = 5
when ever you see the word “is” thats where the equal sign goes
more is +
5 times a number is 5x
put it together.
5×5=25
25+1= 26
There’s the problem. I’m not giving you the answer. π
EDIT: I guess someone beat me to it.
