Memorize better while studying?

Is there anything that will help me memorize what I study?

I have several upcoming math tests so I needs tips on how to remember certain things. I know it’s good to rework problems but I tend to forget things easily.

try doing something like tapping a pencil or something while you memorize stuff, that way you’ll remember if you tap your pencil again. i heard that this works, but i never tried it, since i don’t really need to, but i hope it works for you! also, i heard that almonds help make your memory better, so eat some almonds everyday. of course, you won’t see a difference immediately.

Mnemonic devices tend to be very helpful. For some people, creating a song with a formula tends to help – for instance, I learned the quadratic equation to the tune of Pop-goes-the-weasle 6 years ago and still remember it.

If you are a more visual learner, try making notecards. Sometimes, cutting them in different shapes besides a rectangle (such as a circle or triangle) can have a positive effect on your memory.

If you are a kinesthetic learner, try to find something hands-on to do that would relate to what you need to learn.

Lev Vygotsky, a developmental theorist, said that learning occurs in a social context. Study groups are good as long as you make sure you stay on topic. Verbal discussion of things you have covered tends to make things stick in your memory. Maybe you could get some people from your class together or get some family members to help you create a game of some sort that relates to what you are studying.

These things have all worked for me. Just remember that there is a difference between memorization and learning. If you actually learn and absorb what you are doing, you will be far better off than if you just memorize the information.

MEMORIZATION LINKED TO LEARNING STYLES

The way a person learns affects the sort of mnemonics they should consider using. Remember, too, no one uses one style exclusively.

* There is usually significant overlap in learning styles.

* Since visual learners make up around 65% of the population, most mnemonic devices utilize visual images to aid memory.

KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER:

* Use positive, pleasant images.

* Vivid, colorful images are easier to remember.

* Jot down every diagram, map or symbol written on the board by the instructor.

* Even with printed course notes in front of them, visual learners still benefit from written information of their own, symbols, diagrams, etc.

Auditory learners * relate most effectively to the spoken word. They will listen intently to a lecture, then rely on printed notes or their own notes.

o Often times, summaries of ideas developed in a book or a series of lectures will help the auditory learner understand the material.

o Readily understanding material is essential to learning and remembering.

o Auditory learners make up about 30% of the population. Another excellent manner for the auditory learner to remember is to teach the material to someone else.

o As passive learners, we remember only 10% of what we read, 20% of what we hear, and 30% of what we see.

o When you teach someone else, you retain 70 % of what you teach. When you tell and show someone you retain 90% of what you say and do!

Hope this helps!

if you have a song playing lightly in the background while you read, if you think about that song during a test, you can remember what you were reading. i have this one cd at home and when i listen to it, i remember everything about 1st semester biology… lol

Try to relate the definition of something to personal things. I always use weird references, but they work.

challenge yourself with card, math problem or question on one side, answers on the other
