Your score is well below average for the SAT exam. The average score for the exam is a 1500(500 on each section). If you are planning to apply to any of the competitve schools in the country, you must improve your scores. If you want to improve your scores, I highly recommend you do as much prep as you can. I wouldn’t not approve of taking classes with any of the big test prep companies. When I was a junior in high school, I took a 900 dollar course with Kaplan, and it turned out to be complete garbage! I suggest you use the following books to aid your studies….

1) The Princeton Review’s sat guide: This book contains a section known as the “Princeton Hot 100”, which is a list of the 100 most frequently covered words on the actual exam. In addition the Princeton Review’s guide helps students tackle questions they are unfamilar with time tested techniques.

2) Tutorfox.com’s New Sat guide: This is an online guide written by two students who got a 2400 and a 2350 on the SAT exam. The guide sells for only 10 dollars and extensively covers everything tested on the exam.

Try both of these books if you have the chance
