I suck at math and it brought my ACT score down. Should I even take it over?

I’m bad at math. As a matter of fact I failed Advanced Algebra 2nd semester Junior year. Now as a Senior, I’m taking it over. Anyway I got a 22 on my ACT which is average, but I could have done much better if I didn’t get such a low score in math. Should I even retake the ACT this year? Its been a long summer and I’ve forgotten some of the few stuff I knew! Should I even bother or should I maybe wait to take it later on in the year?

If you want a higher score, take the ACT EVERY time you can! It will probably bring it up just by retaking it.

If you are bad at math, maybe you should concentrate getting better at the other subjects. For instance, I got 21 for my first time. Then I got one of those handy booklets of “how to do better on the act” and ONLY read some of the English. Next time I took it I got a 28! So it really does help, a lot. I suggest getting one of these books, because they really clear up some things and give useful hints.

I know I could get the booklet from my library, so you should check it out.

Good luck!

Summer should have been the time to work on that weak subject. See what is causing you grief. Most likely what it is, is that you are applying your technique instead of the correct technique to solve the problem.

Compare it to tying shoe laces. While you can make several knots, there is only one that you really want. Done in a certain way. Any other way gives you either no knot or one that won’t come apart.

You can pick up these books at the library, so you can reread them yourself and go at your speed. Sometimes you got to read it half a dozen times before you get it….but once you do, on you go.

I would try to get it out of the way as soon as possible, for who knows what other stuff will be added to the “pile”.

By all means take it again, and again, and again. and here’s why. You want your score to be the best it can be for college. It’s worth the extra bucks to take it until you are satisfied with the score. It helps for scholarships and low interest loans. This saves you more then what you will spend taking the test a few times.

If math is not your strong point, you should consider taking the SAT which focuses more on language skills.
