How important are your GRE scores if you did really well in college?

I majored in history and plan to go to grad school for a master’s in library science. I’m not sure how well i’m going to do on the test, but I graduated at the top of my class with a 4.0 and received a few awards.

You should be fine with a 4.0. My guess is you would just have to do good on the GRE, meaning average or better than average. Most graduate schools have a table with GPA on the y axis and GRE scores on the x axis. So if you have a low GPA, that can be offset by a high GRE or a low GRE can be offset by a high GPA. Check with the admissions office of your school you want to study. They should also have statistics of the most recent class they admitted (telling you of the student make up, GPA and GRE average of the last admitted class).
