How do professors set the class average grade in terms of a 4.0 scale ?

and does it change according to the average grade? for example: if a class average grade was 60% and the professor set this average to be a 2.7, and the next class average was 70% will it still be a 2.7 or get higher ??

A professor can set his curves anyway he wants. On a 4.0 scale, all that means is A =4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0.

A professor can set whatever they want whenever they want. Usually most of the grading is set in the beginning and informed to class in the syllabus. The professor may alter things within the semester or quarter depending on how the students are doing.
