Have GCSEs and A levels got easier?

I’m interested to know if there’s any truth in this accusation that we keep hearing – views from teens particularly welcome!

i think the teaching methods have got better, now we do lots of work in modules, for example for my maths gcse i have done 2 module exams and 1 coursework last year, and i think am doing 1 exam and 1 coursework this year. its easier to remember stuff this way.

i am 22 so i did mine recently. i think its so awful when people say this about all your hard work. the exams are stressful. i had to do 6 exams for each of my a levels, 3 a year in each subject and that was not easy.

i think its old biddies who are jealous of the success of the young ones. and also the reports of people who get like 10A* grades make the public believe it but they are exceptions not the rule.

its an attempt to take away the pride you should feel for doing well. the subjects havent changed – english is english, maths is maths. they are asking about the same material and same subjects. they dont mark maths questions correct when they are not. they dont bump marks up for no reason why would they do that?

I think its important to remember grades in subjects like french are actually getting worse. its only on average that the pattern is increasing. and i think its cos students study more these days because life is more competitive. i think there is more going to uni so they have to work harder. they are told they will not be successful without a degree so they have to get the grades to get there.

in the past people probably didnt care that much if u got a C.

I got 4 As and i dint even study almost all year, just about a week before my first exam, so maybe they have? coz at the start of year 12 i was being told we’d have to put somethin like 2 hours per subject at home every day. And in the old days they didnt have modules and coursework…imagine that, might have been hard, but thats a “might” 😀
