getting in to Virginia Tech?

If you want to go to the engineering school, you may have to do a lot better than most of the students. The same applies if you are out-of-state.
Check the corps box on your college application. There are many scholarships available and even an overnight program where you can come and see how the corps works for a few days.
The corps “method” gives you an edge, but it’s at least a 6 week commitment into the program. www.vtcc.vt.edu.
But if you just want to be a plain college student, then you can still ask me questions.
I got in with a gpa >3.5, decent SAT score (check the minimum, the scale is different now) and a variety of leadership, extracurricular and volunteer activites (softball, rifle team, NHS, BGCA, etc).
But don’t get too overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done for you to get in – it can backfire when the stress gets to be too much. Just work hard but don’t be too hard on yourself. And if you don’t get in, you might end up at a school that fits you better (smaller classes, smaller campus, etc.). If you’re not happy at that school, you can always apply to Tech as a transfer student. So don’t worry yourself too much about it. Just work really hard, stay focused and believe that everything will work out for the best. Good luck.
