Ethical pickle, need thinkers for this one.?

I am an older college student with many notches on my bookstrap. I am inexplicably computer savvy.

I think I was given a test run of a new process by teacher as make-up homework.

The problem is, it uses javascript and a post method where all of the variables are in the HTML to be freely manipulated and decoded.

I did not waste my time decoding the answers that were provided in the code. I did however manipulate the test to show me (and not my teacher) the few answers I did get wrong the first time through.

I ran through an unmodified test the second time around possibly correcting 3/4 of the wrong answers. In essence I got a second try after seeing which questions I got wrong.

Every answer I submitted was from my book, notes, or recollection. I bumped myself from a high B to a low A getting a second try and stopping there. Two more tries would have guaranteed a suspicious 100%.

Do I expose myself as a hacker to dissuade the professor from using this bad process?

It sounds like you are feeling guilty because you have exploited a vulnerability and said nothing about it. Here’s a multiple-choice question:

If you found a wallet lying on the ground would you:

  a. Take the money and leave the wallet

  b. Take the money and try to return the wallet

  c. Try to return the wallet, leaving the money inside

  d. Walk away and leave the wallet

You knew what the “right thing” to do was and you chose to do something else for your own gain. There is still time for you to do the right thing… fess up and tell your teacher. What’s the worst thing that could happen? Once upon a time I did something similar and some called for my firing (I was a student worker who found a vulnerability) but instead I got hired on as a full-time employee and gained some respect from my new boss and co-workers. Heck, the college just might hire you to be on their side. At the very least, leave an anonymous note.

I would just tell them that you discovered the problem and continued to investigate just how far the system could be manipulated. Since you are letting them know, it’s more likely that you won’t get in trouble or anything, as long as you tell them that you did the research on your own, and that your grade needs to be changed back. If you choose otherwise, you should look to become a politician.

Sounds like you’re very clever.

Can the teacher monitor past usage and find out what you did? If so, you’re found out. If not, well, you did a good job on making sure you got the right answers.

i think of the extra you study, the extra you study, the extra you’re taking issues with a liberal and severe recommendations, the extra ‘ethical’ you have a tendency to be, because of the fact close-mindedness and lack of know-how have a tendency to reproduce discrimination and such… yet, of path, ethics is a social build, and can be fairly subjective, and many the ideal minds have a tendency to selection, outstanding?
