Does reading newspapers like the NY Times improve SAT CR scores?

A common misconception, though, is that you need to have a ridiculously large vocabulary to do well on the SAT CR section. You don’t. First of all, most of it is reading, not a vocab test. You have to develop your test taking strategy in order to do well. That takes study and practice. I recommend the Official Guide to the SAT, by the College Board itself, The Princeton Review Cracking the SAT (both are probably available at your local library), and www.sparknotes.com for a free online resource. Yes, you do need to know some words, but it’s more important to have a feel for words and understand how they have to be used. I really don’t have a huge vocabulary, but I still got a perfect 800 CR score just because I knew the test, even if I didn’t know every single word I came across.
