Can you say “ick”??!!!!?

I have a son named Dominic. Now how would you pronounce that? Dominick or Domonique? I am so upset that EVERYONE who sees my son’s name mispronounces it. First and foremost, Domonique is a girls name and more specifically, a black girls name. Just for the record, my son is a boy and he is white. But more importantly, every word in the english language that ends in “IC” is pronounced “ICK”, i.e. mechanic, angelic, etc. So why is it so hard for people to recognize his name? He is almost 2 now and I have been bothered by this his entire life. My question is would you legally change the spelling of his name (add a “K”) before he has to deal with this in school? I really had no idea people would be so ignorant when I named him, but I would hate for him to always have to correct others for calling him a girls name. Any Dominics out there have this problem?

i dont think people really care anymore. quite honestly. i think its sad when people dont bother to try and same someones name correctly. and by the way, i read the name correctly. 🙂 maybe its because people are stupid?! if you can speak and read english, you should be able to differentiate between the two. and i feel your frustration. i have a 2 year old, also, and people ALWAYS call him a girl. i never used to correct them, when he was an infant, wearing only a white onesies, but when hes wearing ALL BLUE, NO BOWS IN THE HAIR, how do you get it twisted???? ugh. oh by the way, my sons name is Alex, and the medical assistant at the doctors office called him a her! DUH, read the effin chart!!! do not change his name, by the way. its cute. not so common anymore.

Where did you get that info about Domonique? Cause that doesn’t sound right. I have a guy friend named Domonice and most call him Dominic… lol. I have a daughter named Tegan(pronounced tea-gan) and most say Te-gan like Megan with a t. I have been correcting people on that one for 25 years and I have never minded so I don’t understand your problem. I guess if it is driving you crazy you should legally change it but I guarantee it will still be mispronounced occasionally.

people are just stupid. I would not change a thing, anyone who cant tell its IC, is an idiot and atleast it tells you about their intelligence. My name is Chelsea. I know about a hundred chelsea’s. SEA is how the last part is pronounced. and even still some people try to pronounce my name Chel SEA UH. it doesnt matter how simple it is, some people are complete morons.

People are dumb. Seriously.

I wouldn’t change the spelling. No matter what, people can screw up a name. Even the simple ones.
