Best way to study for a history exam?

Actually, I am studying for the Foreign Service exam. I have been studying text books related to foreign policy, etc.

I have been making flash cards to remember treaties, ammendments, facts, etc……

I would rather not depend on memorizing these things, perhaps there is a better way?

Thanks.

Try to find some type of entertainment that can help you study (like something on tv or singing a song). If you can not find this use the basic three. (write, repeat it, and teach it).

Do not study before the test with other people who are taking the test with you.

Last thing you can do is have someone test you. and test them.

If all this does not work out plan a cheat sheet. by doing this you are studying and also setting up plan b.

Good you are asking such a questin. I hope that you are not bored of historty, though sometimes it may be borin during the classes because of the teacher(as it is for me). But if you read the text by yourself you will find it interesting and be involved in it. Dont worry too much about the dates, years and names. Always keeps some clues or anything in case you find it difficult to memorise the names. Learn only the important years, as years are abundant in history, there may be only a few which are very important. If it is something about the kings who fought with this or that king or revolution, try to make an easy flowchart or learn the lesson with the map on your side(if you have map also for the lesson,) which will make you easy to study the map also. And please dont think about studying history in the day of the exam. It will cause more confusion. Study at least 2 0r 3 lessons before the exam. So at least U can compelete the rest easily. I am student of 9th standard, these are the methods which i apply when i study. Hope u find it useful freind. Enjoy studying, never be tensed or bored. Ok, All the best Poornaka(I liked your name)
