Examples might be literal (jewelry that appears to be precious metal and gems can be plated metal and cut glass, or inexpensive fashionable clothes that become mis-shapen when you wash them), or figurative (grading easier gives students higher test scores, but in the end they learn less, or being rich solving all your problems).
