ACT vs. SAT?

Is the ACT the same thing as the SAT? They both test your knowledge learned throughout highschool, so is it necessary to take both?

if you plan on going to a top notch college, you’ll probably have to take both, but if you’re just going to a state college, then they usually only require the ACT

No, the ACT and the SAT are not the same. I think the ACT is harder than the SAT, but some people think the opposite. Also the SAT is accepted at just about every college, whereas the ACT is not. It is not necessary to take both. To prepare you might want to consider a book. From my experience, the best preparation books were princeton review guide, and the tutorfox new sat guide. Used together, I increased my SAT score by about 200 points. Good luck, and please let me know if you have any more questions.

The SAT is test based on different items compared to the ACT. Universities that are considered “Ivy League” or “Top Scale” generally require the SAT because it also tests logic and reasoning.

The ACT is based on 5 areas- Grammar, Reading comprehension, Math, Science Reasoning and now Writing. It is on a scale of 1-35. Most colleges require a score of 19 or higher to be accepted. Many colleges will offer scholarships for scores higher than 27/28. This test can be taken as often as desired, however it’s important to know what colleges/universities accept as the score for enterance (first attempt, highest score, most recent test.)

Find out from various schools you might be interested in attending before deciding which test to take. You also want to contact your guidance counselor to help you decide.

It depends on where you want to go to college. Some colleges require the SAT and some require the ACT. They both measure intelligence, but they test different things and the time frame is different. Grading is also different. I personally think you should take both. Some colleges will take your better score out of the two.

They are similar but not the same. Some students score better on one vs the other. The point scales are a bit different (SAT 2400 is perfect, ACT 32 is perfect). Most 4 year colleges accept both.

ACT: Work’s best if you plan on staying inside your state. (normal test)

SAT: GREAT, if you plan on going to other University outside state that your currently in. (little harder)

Both are good and you are right about both. They do test your knowledge in all four field’s.

No, the SAT focuses primarily on Grammerand writing. ACT foucuses on Math. If you are comftorable with both, there is a optional writing test on the ACT. Choose which area you are more comftorable with and choose it! Goodluck!
