About the SAT….?

I heard that the SAT in October is, overall, tougher than the SAT in December or January…Since it’s the seniors last chance to take it or something…Can anyone who has taken it, or has a good knowledge of this inform me if this is correct or not?…

thanx guys…

That’s something of an urban myth. The facts are that it’s a STANDARDIZED test, which means in part that they adjust the scores (the conversion from your raw score to your scaled score out of 800 for each section) slightly for each test to MAKE SURE they’re all about the same. And it’s a bit ridiculous to think that they would intentionally make it harder to spite the seniors. 🙂 It’s a standardized test. Period.

For a more subjective evaluation, I took the test 4 times total, (granted, with about a year in between each testing)– twice in Januarys, once in December, and the last time my senior year in October. I wouldn’t say one test seemed harder or easier than the others, except in as much as I was a year older each time, lol. And my highest score by 150 points was that last time in October.

I doubt it, because I was told that June’s was supposedly the easiest, but my CR score dropped significantly when I could’ve done better since a passage was from a book I’d read in the spring, and another was from another well-known book (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Joy Luck Club–I think–respectively).

In each test you take, you have a raw score and that’s adjusted to give you the score they send back to you. You’ll understand if you skim through Practice Tests in Princeton Reviews and such. I think the real reason behind this myth is: The more you think about how hard something is, the more nervous you get. And the more nervous you get, the worse you’ll do. Maybe that’s why October’s supposedly the hardest–because it’s one of the few chances Seniors have left before application deadlines. Simply, just be positive, prepared, and well rested and fed. I’m one of those Seniors. No one gave me advice soon enough, and I was left on my own.
