Why do schools put kids in special Ed when they don’t need it?

I’m done with school but i have been put in a special ed class since high school and i must admit when i was a kid i had an anger problem but i had got it under control in middle school.

Anyways i was tested in 10th grade and was not qualified for special ed anymore yet they kept me in it even when i wanted out. I really didn’t learn anything in high school and i would sleep most of the time because the work was super easy and i would finish it in 5 to 10 mins while everyone else struggled

i heard that schools make more money with special ed kids, not sure if thats true. I tried my best to get out but my stupid mom wouldn’t agree with it =(

Just to let you guys know i scored at 12th grade in reading, 11th for writing, 9th in math. Can’t remember the rest… I basically learned all i know from my computer.

That’s really weird and I’ve never heard of a case like yours before. All I can say is that I’m sorry that happened to you. Maybe you should take it up with your mom, since she was the one that kept you in the class.

Schools do get paid for students that qualify for special ed. Some schools think that putting children in special ed is easier than dealing with there specific problems. Like me the wanted to put me in special ed because i was having a hard time reading but unlike you my mom fought to keep me in the regular class room. To this day i am happy that my mom did that because i could do the work i just need a little help with the reading. I now read probalily at a grade 9-10 level and i have been out of school for 5 years.

What subjects were you there for in Special Ed? Do you have ADD or ADHD? I could only guess your mom kept you in it is because you needed help with a specific subject(s), or if you were tested and diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. I agree, ask your mom why you were in the program. I’ve never heard that the school district gets more money depending on how many kids are in special ed.

Mamoo has awesome recommendations. I accept as true with all of them. i’m a particular ed instructor and that i could desire to ask – how do you be attentive to that she does not have Aspergers? Who has instructed you that she does not? this is tough to hearken to once you are the discern or the relative yet you are able to no longer purely say “she is purely shy”. the mothers and dads could desire to discover a pediatrician (with any luck a devlopmental pediatrician) or a neurologist which you believe and discover out what the guy says. after which you would be able to desire to hearken to them so as that she gets the help she desires. I agree that this could be selective mutism, which demands information from a psycholgoist and consistent with possibility a speech therapist. additionally – why does the college have faith she has an autistic situation? What exams have they given her? What behaviors that they stated that have made them come to this end? Her mothers and dads could desire to share the end results of those exams and observations with their wellbeing practitioner, and spot what the wellbeing practitioner says. If mothers and dads do no longer accept as true with a particular ed placement interior the U. S., they are able to appeal the determination. in spite of the undeniable fact that, finally, the college would be waiting to place a new child who’s truly autistic specially guidance. this is why this is mandatory for the mothers and dads to understand why they think of this new child is “purely shy” and why the college thinks she has Asperger’s. If the college has sufficient evidence of their positon, and the mothers and dads do exactly no longer pick to hearken to, then the college does have the awesome to stick to by way of. So – get those mothers and dads to take this new child to a doctor that they believe ASAP. share each and every of the place of work work from the college with the wellbeing practitioner. If she does has Asperger’s, do no longer melancholy. many human beings do. they are able to lead comprehensive amazing lives with the awesome help. I truly have had manys tudents with Asperger’s and that they’ve all stayed interior the same old college room and gotten sturdy grades. They did choose particular help in spite of the undeniable fact that, often in regard to communique and social skills. They have been given this actual help in school, even inspite of the incontrovertible fact that they’ve been in a usual type gaining knowledge of the comparable issues as all human beings else. possibly this could be a threat for this woman. sturdy success.

The school does not put students into special ed programs. If a student qualifies for special education, they present this information to the parent and the parent gives permission to have the child in the program. I would go and ask your parents why they gave their permission for you to be in the program. It is true that schools get money for special education students because they have to pay for the programs and materials. But, if a student no longer qualifies and the parents don’t want them in the program, then they won’t be in it.

You were not placed in special education because of your reading, writing and math abilities, but because of your anger and emotional problems, which were probably interfering with the general education classroom. You already admitted that you had an anger problem. Maybe you think you got it under control in middle school, but obviously there were other adults (including your own mom) who didn’t.

its been my experience that we DONT want more kids in special ed. sounds to me you were in an ED class for reasons that are not for academics. i feel badly for you if you were placed unfairly. it is up to your parents and the school where you are placed. a lot of times, special will keep a student if they have had them throughout their schooling. its just so the student is not suddenly without support. but like i said, it does not sound as if you have a learning disability, but emotional problems.

why not go on to community college? you sound like you could handle the work and why not further your education? that is always a good thing!! good luck to you!

They did the same to me. when i was in 11th grad, i was at a fifth grade level in almost everything. i drooped out in 12th do to the fact i was just fed up. 10 years later, my wife sat down with me for 3 months and taught me everything i needed to know for my GED. i passed with very high grades and i am now in college with a 3.66 average. it did nothing but hold me back. the kids with some special need are locked up and the key is thrown away. i was in E.D since the 3rd grade

Special ed classes should not always be easy. If you qualified as E.D. then you should have been on standard course of study. E.D. does not mean that you need a lower curriculum…generally it means that you need smaller settings, less transition. The purpose of placing and keeping you in special ed should have been for your benefit, not for your hinderance.
