Once you’ve identified what your disability is, the best thing to do is to learn skills to help you overcome the challenges. For example, if you have dyslexia, you’ll want to learn other methods of taking in and understanding materials. If you have ADHD symtoms, you’ll want to learn ways to focus. Basically, identify your ‘disability’ or challenge and develop your skills and habits around studying that best help you succeed. It’s important to focus on your strengths — for every challenge you have you also have a gift.

With out a doubt Reading!!! take if from some one who couldn’t read well until the fifth grade. Someone who does not read well can’t really get far in life. How do you learn how to do a lot of the things that are going to be known to make a living in the future. Knowing how to read can affect your whole life, your self esteem and how you view yourself. You potential for making money and supporting yourself and a family. You could kill yourself by accident if you don’t know how to read medicine bottles or medication instructions. Reading is the most important thing to learn with out good reading skills life is so much harder.

I would suggest daily math skills: cost of products, counting change. There are basic skills for each grade in each subject. What is the LD? Higher level skills are very possible with LD students.

Patience, tollerance of ignorant and teasing people. Not being afraid to ask and ask until you understand. Find people who you trust and can help when something is difficult. But I feel the most important skill is to be kind to yourself and lots of positive self talking. You will be your worst critic and possibly get so frustrated you may put yourself down. Believe in yourself and know you are trying your hardest, in fact you may be the hardest worker at your school. Good luck.
