I am the mother of a child with autism. When he was diagnosed at age 3, they told us he would never talk, read, write, do math feed himself, be toilet trained, dress himself and that he should be institutionalized…

He is now age 13 and at grade level in writing, above grade level in reading and math. he helps me cook and is quite a snappy dresser. he is toilet trained and I have every faith that he will be just fine.

Here are a few of the interventions that I found and used. The medical establishment “poo-poo’ed” us, but it worked!

I hope this helps!

Cures– no, sorry… Autism has no cure, MR has no cure

I can suggest websites to check about autism, b/c I know more about that.

There are treatments for Autism… behavior modification and therapy which you have to look for to find a good therapist. My child has a great therapist and is making great strides and progress with my child. The IEP we have at school really helps and keeps everyone on the SAME page. My child receives DT services after school, the hours were recently reduced, due to a medicaid cut back, but they were greatly influencing my child’s behavior… 15 hours a week, now 7… cuts really hurt us and the DT worker.

You get out of a child what you put into them. You must be willing to fight and not just sit around and HOPE for a cure. Yeah, I’d like a cure, but it’s not here, so I work for my child’s best interests. I make sure the meds are right, I make sure the therapist is good and I keep after the school to make IEPS that make sense in the goals we’re trying to reach with my child. Everyone working together to make my child reach the maximum potential is KEY! I do a lot work towards this myself.

A brain transplant something you need if you can’t

do your own school project and you have to relay on Yahoo Q/A. Your mental disability is called stupidity.
