I’m thinking about getting a dual master’s degree in Accounting and Information Systems. Good or not good?

How marketable do you think it’ll be for a person to have a dual master’s degree in Public Accounting and Business Information Systems?

Additional Information (optional read):

I already have the soft skills required to be successful in the job market today (e.g. – good job interviewing, interpersonal and communication skills). The only thing I’m lacking is technical skills. So, I figured if I get a dual graduate degree in Accounting and Information Systems, that’ll fill in the gap.

*I majored in Finance (with a minor in communications) in my undergraduate studies – just to let you know. In addition, financing my graduate education will not be a problem.

Sounds good to me! Accounting is always going to be a viable career option, because lets be honest here, it takes a certain level of patience to enjoy that subject, and the work that goes with it. to have info systems on top of that would be great. You could take on a managerial role in a firm, with that sort of background. I think you have a guarantee with the accounting, and if you really have those interpersonal skills down, you could really move up in a company.

I do hope you are up for the challenge though… because that is going to be a painstaking process. Good luck!

Hey it can’t make you look UNATTRACTIVE to employers. Companies like to see that you have a diverse background in different fields. You could even be a Risk Assessment Manager someday with that type of educational background. And if you get tired of the fields you mentioned, you could probably have a lot of open doors with the two degrees plus your IT degree. I definitely say go for it. You will not regret it.

Having a degree in Accounting is a great idea. To be honest I would run with just that. I would also look into going and doing a income tax course. There is alot of money to be made in that. They are always looking for a good accountant!!!! We have a family friend that got her degree in Accounting, and lives a life style that alot would like. I hope this just gives you something to think about. Good luck with whatever you choose.

It’s not good – it’s an excellent idea. Given your background in Finance, you could even consider becoming a CPA or going into IS Consulting.

One role that is in tremendous demand today is Financial Systems Auditor. Your dual major would be perfect for that position.
