How does applying early action affect your college application?

I’m going to be a senior in high school and I was wondering if anyone could help me by explaining the positives and negatives of applying early action.

I have straight B’s (basically) at a really hard magnet school.

I have a 30 on my ACT so far (I’m taking it at least 2 more times and I’m taking an ACT class)

I am also involved with many extracurriculars and sports in which I have been very committed to.

Thank you so much.

I believe that colleges give preference to early action and early decision candidates because it shows a higher degree of commitment to that college (ie: you are more likely to accept an admittance to that college, because you applied early action and colleges like it when their acceptance percentages look high).

I am positive this is the case with early decision colleges, because that involves a commitment, but I’m less certain that its the case with early action schools.
