Do you have to cite your source?

When you begin a sentence by indicating your source, is it necessary to site it at the end of the sentence?

ex: According to Roberts………

** I have to use APA if that means anything **

u should cite EVERYTHING….. in this case… just put the date of the source in parentheses…. “According to Roberts (2007)” or whatever date the source is would be enough … do u have the APA publication manual? helps a lot — i think if u do a search u can find it online if u have other specific questions

If you’re citing throughout the body of your paper (as opposed to using footnotes), and you’ve cited (not indicated) that same source somewhere in that same paragraph or section of the paper, then you’re fine. However, if you’re using information from a different page of the same work you’ve indicated, then you do need to reference the page number at the end of the sentence. Hope I explained that ok, I’ve written a ton of research papers, but not for the past few years.

If the author’s name is used in the text introducing the source material, then cite the page number(s) in parentheses:

Branscomb argues that “it’s a good idea to lurk (i.e., read all the messages without contributing anything) for a few weeks, to ensure that you don’t break any of the rules of netiquette” (7) when joining a listserv.

You shouldn’t begin a sentence by saying your source you should only put it at the end
