Athena presents herself as a loving goddess in the next few chapters. She is always looking out for Odysseus and always keeping a watchful eye on Telemachos. She even goes the distance to make Odysseus look bigger and meaner by making him taller and stronger. This is exactly what a goddess would do if she would want her plan to work.

She especially likes Odysseus; mainly because he is nearly as insane as she is, and is easily controlled and directed. She even convinces Odysseus that he is bigger. taller and stronger than most. Especially Telemachos.
Her plan works of course. Odysseus is obsessed with impressing her. While he is at it however, he becomes more and more uncontrollable, killing Athena’s suitors whenever the mood strikes.
Soon Athena recognizes the error of her ways.
All of the suitors are dead.
There is no one left. but Odysseus,
crazier than Athena.
