Based on my online searches, it looks as if no one really knows who first came up with this analogy. It’s become a bit of a cliche.

Here are a couple of takes:

Was it Churchill who observed that in a breakfast of eggs and bacon, the hen was ‘involved’, but the pig was ‘committed’?

It’s like the old farmer’s adage about breakfast and the difference between involvement and commitment, the kind of thing you’ll hear out in Nebraska. “The hen was involved,” the farmer says, “but the pig was committed.”
