TV show Dobbie Gillis – Mainard G Cribs, the beatnic. Who some might recognize as the same actor who played Gilligan in Gilligan’s Island. He drew a square, moving just both index fingers, about 6″ square as he said it. After that, everyone did it. Looked pretty neat at the time, late 50’s.

All I remember, is on the Flintstones cartoon as a kid….Fred calling people a square, but drawing it with his fingers….Sorry I don’t think that answers your question, but that is what popped into my head when I saw this question…
