I often use quotes in conversations! One of my favorites was written by Mahatma Gandhi: “When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it–always.”

With today’s political atmosphere, people in turmoil with wars raging in the middle east and elsewhere I quite often converse about these things. The beauty of this quote is that it can be used in many situations…from things as insignificant as the schoolyard bully to heads of state and anything in-between.

A quote by Gore Vidal:

“It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail”

I was talking to a friend about Harry Potter & said it would be a perfect motto for Slytherin House.

It’s one of my favorite quotes, though there are few opportunities to use it.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” I remember it because it is my favorite quote and makes the most sense to me. One conversation was with my son about drinking and driving. If you need to go somewhere don’t drink until you get home. If you drink and drive and get caught it will take you forever to get through all the legal fees, lawyer fees, fines, jail time. If you stay home and drink you save all that hassle. Hence – “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

Power Corrupts! Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely.

Someone asked why the Republicans during their seizure of power turned out to be so corrupt while in power. I remember because the person I was talking to was a life long right wing conservative, and was about in tears over the latest corruption scandal to rock the gop.

When I made the statement it put it all into perspective for him and gave him something to think about. He actually thanked me for talking with him. And I am a LIFELONG, PROUD, FLAG WAVING LIBERAL. Thank you very much for not referring to me as a Progressive.

“Liberal: From the word Liberty. Freedom of choice, freedom from oppression. “

I was talking to the kids in my class and I said “We’ve got a long way to go, and a short time to get there,” just like in Smokey and the Bandit. Of course, they are seventh graders, and have no idea what Smokey and the Bandit is.

You can not get blood out of turnips. When someone wants money I do n ot have. Or I did not fall off the turnip truck. When someone thinks they have fooled me. I was born at night but not last night. For the same reason as the one before.

“It is what it is”. We were talking about a mistake my friend made. I explained with my quote that she could not change what happened, so she would have to deal with it.
