I don’t quite understand this quote?

“Happiness is like a butterfly.

The more you chase it, the more it eludes you.

But if you turn your attention to other things,

It comes and sits softly on your shoulder.”

Henry David Thoreau

Someone has said that life is what happens while we make other plans. So true. We tend to worry so much about so many things that we forget to actually live life.

Happiness is not a destiny, but a way of travelling. In other words, happiness is not a point or a situation we come to, but it is the very trip (life) itself!!! Happiness can’t be found anywhere other than within ourselves, God being the source.

And the one thing that should be considered: happiness is not the absence of troubles and trials, but it is a choice we make, regardless of what is happening all around us. And it is not about what happens to us, but how we react to it.

Every morning we are faced with this question: how am I going to face my day, in bitterness or with a heart full of joy?

I think the basic purpose of the quote is to remind us to stop and take a look around at what we already have. People who are constantly looking for something to make them happy are missing out on things in their life that could make them happy if only they would pay attention to them. By constantly striving after something else, you miss out on the happiness that could be yours.

I think what the author is trying to mean is that you need to stop and look around you and enjoy the little things in everyday’s life.

People are always looking in the wrong places for happiness, forgetting that the little things are the ones that fill your soul and make you happy.

It simply means for you to sit down and take a look at all the wonderful things that already surround your life, instead of just wanting more and more.

Persuing happiness for the sake of it is useless, as it ends up making you even more miserable. Rather, happiness is a by-product of doing things that you like or enjoy.

Just what I think.

When you chase happiness, you will never obtain it because happiness is not something that can be caught. If you give up your search for happiness, though, it finds you.

Happiness is what happens when you’re busy with other things.

the more you look for it the harder you’ll find

then you’ll realize that everything you have was already there.
