Grammar help, please?
I need for someone to help me with a grammar dilemma. I have tried various other places to find an answer; but can’t find anything. My question pertains to question marks, and exclamation points and quotation marks. My question is in reference to the following sentence:
“It’s ringing,” Allie said, holding the phone against her ear. “What time is it?” She asked Samantha.
Is She supposed to be capitalized or not?
Is there a rule about capitalizing a word after question marks or exclamation points?
Thanks

Don’t capitalize it. It is a continuation of the statement.

S should not be capitalized in this instance. You would treat the ? or ! just like a comma. The only time you would capitalize it would be if it was a name.
And the comma after “Allie said,” is just fine.

do not capitalize the S in She…
The continuation of the statement after the reporting verb does not begin with a capital letter unless it is a proper noun..

Miscarinne is exactly right. No capital because it is part of the sentence,

I am not an English teacher.
S shouldn’t be capitalized here.

Also, I’d lose the comma after Allie said – it reads better as a single clause.
