Of all the revolutionary leaders, Emiliano Zapata was the most radical and the most committed to social justice.

It is he who said, “It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.”

P.S. Dolores Ibarruri delivered a speech in 1936 titled “Better Die Standing, Than Live Kneeling!”

The quote Es mejor morir a pie que vivir arrodillado (Translation: It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.),while popularly attributed to Zapata, is actually from Cuban revolutionary José Martí. Zapatistas did use this slogan, but it did not originate with Zapata.

this is a misquote from the wellknown crime bos don mario spaghetti: he was killing an one-time associate and made-man Louis “the wireless modem” Ravioli and he said:

“what’s better? to die without your feet?

or have your head strapped to your knees?”

then he put louis’s feet in a bucket of cement and pushed him in the okefenokee swamp where he sleeps with the old bedsteads to this day.
