English help? What does this mean?
“King Alcinous, most notable of all the people, verily it is a good thing to list to a minstrel such as this one, like to the gods in voice. Nay, as for me, I say that there is no more gracious or perfect delight than when a whole people makes merry, and the men sit orderly at feast in the halls and listen to the singer, and the tables by them are laden with bread and flesh, and a wine-bearer drawing the wine serves it round and pours it into the cups. This seems to me well nigh the fairest thing in the world. But now thy heart was inclined to ask of my grievous troubles, that I may mourn for more exceeding sorrow.”

I say that there is nothing better than when people party, and the men sit in the dining hall and listen to the singer, and the tables are loaded with bread and meat, and the wine-bearer goes table-to-table , keeping the cups filled with wine. (Remember, ancient Greek and Roman cultures reclined on low couches around a table. They would reach over and take a bit of food, then leisurely eat it.) The author creates a picture of a large dining hall, with people (men) reclining on the couches, eating, drinking, and listening to a singer perform.
This seems to me to be the best thing in the world. But, since you’ve asked me about my troubles, I am reminded of my great sorrow.
