“Ello, Gov’na (Guvna)!” – Origin of the phrase, anyone?

Alright, so I’ve been saying the phrase for the past couple of months and, for the life of me, can’t remember where I heard it. Can ANYONE help me out? Google didn’t lead me to an answer, with the exception of a Kellogg’s commercial, but I know it was long before then that I first came across the greeting. Thanks in advance!

It’s one of the most common Cockney phrases. It’s been used countless of times, so there’s no possible way to trace exactly where you first heard it. The most common one I remember seeing is in one of the Treehouse of Horror episodes of The Simpsons, and Bart says it.

The phrase is “Hello Governor”, but in the cockney voice comes across as ‘ello governa. It doesn’t come from anything particular that I know of. Governor in this case means “The Boss”, and is still used widely by the english and in particular cocknies. “Not arf it ain’t missus!”
