tht would be a silly quote, problem its it is not a quote but an allegorical wisdom, which is not silly at all, it means it better to actually have possesion of anythng, than to say you could possible have more, but there not in your grasp., it makes a practical bit of wisodom a little folksy sounding and down to earth, kind of like the old Chinese proverb (proverb means wisdom), “He who sleeps in road, wake up with run down feeling”, now thats silly, but truthful really. A quote is something some one said, linked usually to a significant event or line of reasoning, such as in a debate, speech or book like these two: “I have not yet begun to fight” or give me liberty or give me death” one is from a naval battle the other was spoken in a speech. they are definite quotes attributed to some one (as in to Quote someone), there are Ironic quotes, which seem silly after the fact, such as when the confederate officer said “don’t be affraid boys, those troops couldn’t hit the broad side of that barn!” as he stood up and pointed his sword at a not to distant large barn, as the last words came from his lips, a bullet struck him in the fore head, hed died instantly. now thats ironnic, and makes you chuckle (silly).

I don’t think that “saying” is silly. It is one of hundreds that our unlettered forebears used to instruct others younger and less wise in the ways of life. The illustration of principles by simple everyday examples.

Two other, and completely contradictory examples are:

Too many cooks spoil the broth, and

Many hands make light work.
