I do agree with this statement because it is true. I am not free to kill others or steal from others or commit atrocities against other people. Freedom is a two fold thing. First, it is freedom from something – oppression, addiction, whatever. However, it is also freedom for something – the freedom to become something great and help others.

What really determines freedom is our ethical stance. Do we merely live for ourselves and seek our own pleasure and gain? If so, then freedom to do whatever you want makes sense, even if it means hurting others. On the other hand, do we live for others and seek their well-being as much as our own? If that is the case, then freedom for makes more sense to you because then freedom is not just about you – it’s about others too.

Yes, I agree. If everyone got to do what they want, we’d all be in chaos right now. Rules has to be implemented. There should be limitations. Freedom doesn’t necessarily mean you can do whatever you want but it means that you can do things that you want without hurting others or bringing others harm. Just like the freedom of speech and expression. Sure, we can say anything we want but we cannot just accuse someone who is innocent or without proof. Sometimes we take this all for granted and we abuse the word FREEDOM that we take things into our own hands. In my opinion, being free is being able to live your own life and being able to decide on your own, using your own mind. The rules are there only to guide us. They are not forced into us. It is a decision for us if we want to follow it or not.

Yes and no. Everything is relative.

First of all there is a difference in freedom from and real freedom.

Freedom from is easy to understand. That would be like freedom from entrapment like a prison or such similar thing.

Now, real freedom.

How would a mountain climber be more free?

Well, let’s look at it. His purpose is to climb mountains. So if he would achieve that he would achieve happiness.

So, how would he easier achieve it? By being more able to do it.

Yes, Freedom allows you to do things within the ambit of the law and good human relations. It does not imply that you have to abuse the right of others.
